Gunii - A Taste of South Africa
Growing up on a farm in South Africa was as special and adventure filled as you can imagine. Along with this came the inevitable making of Biltong as my Father and Grandfather were avid hunters and as most South Africans would tell you, Biltong is deeply rooted in our culture. This meant that we got to experiment with a lot of different spices and techniques over time to find the best ways and blends for a really Traditional taste.
After University, I ended up traveling the world for 7 years and this is where I met my wife who grew up in a small German town in Bavaria. We could not be from two more different worlds but as fate would have it, we both ended up in Cape Town together for 2 years. Here the South African Culture and Food made a lasting impression on my wife who started to grow fond of Biltong & Droëwors and who can blame her as this is the story for most visitors who get to experience South Africa.
We decided to move to Germany to be closer to family but soon the craving for some Biltong & Droëwors became unbearable. We first tried a few local options and then even a few from further away but we just could not find the right balance between Quality and Taste. With a bit of encouragement from my wife I decided to jump back into making my own. Slight adjustments to the technique due to the change in climate in Germany compared to South Africa and I once again found myself snacking on the fantastic taste of Traditional Biltong & Droëwors that I remember from my youth.
Supplying to friends and Family made it clear that we were not alone in craving the True taste and so I was inspired to grow it into a Business now called Gunii.
Gunii now strives to make sure we deliver this balance between Quality and Taste to all those who crave a taste of home, those who wants to relive the great memories they made on their travels to South Africa or even discovering these delicacies for the first time, we’re here to make every bite a moment to savor.
